Winter Art Exhibition
We are delighted to feature the work of the following artists in our Winter Art Exhibition:
Mary Bartley: Mary Bartley is an abstract expressionist artist working in acrylics on canvas, paper or whatever surface presents itself. Mary divides her time between Dublin and her new and larger studio in Dromod Co Leitrim. She draws her inspiration from her garden in Donnybrook and the rugged and rolling landscape of Leitrim and Sligo as well as her lived experience. Despite her many health issues she continues to paint in a constantly evolving style and has developed quite an international and online following. Her work can be seen across the world, Beijing, Hong Kong, New Zealand, USA, Sweden, Germany and of course Ireland and the UK. Mary is delighted to take part in the 2024 winter exhibition at the DLR Mill Theatre in Dundrum in the presence of three esteemed artists. She hope that all will enjoy her submitted works.
Joan Gleeson: Born in the West of Ireland, Co Mayo, Joan has always been fascinated by nature and the impact of the elements on natural phenomena. Now living in the coastal region of Dublin, Howth and Dollymount provide an ever-renewing source of inspiration and investigation against the backdrop of an ever-changing city. Water, sands, stones, vegetation are all a source of fascination and form part of an investigative journey ,ever renewing itself .
Educated originally in the West of Ireland she studied in the National College of Art and Design 1968 – 1976 and University College Dublin 1970 – 1973. She joined The Black Church printing studio in 1993. She specializes in etching, sometimes combining a variety of techniques e.g. carborundum, embossed paper, chiné colleé, photo etch and gold leaf , to convey a sense of unfolding possibilities within an image. She has exhibited nationally and internationally.
Margaret McLoughin: Mcloughlin ‘s work explores the textures and colours of the forest and bog land landscape. Her landscapes are based in the mountain landscapes of Leitrim and Wicklow. She investigates the quiet beauty of a bog land edged by forest, where trees fall and the earth constantly regenerates. These are quiet compelling landscapes that capture the sweep of time across the landscape acknowledging the power of wind , mist, snow and rain on the untamed landscape. The footprint of man is acknowledged in the broken fence, log piles and borders of trees. The constant regeneration of the land through wind rain and decay are here in the windswept world. Occasionally she explores the detail of a branch, or stalks, details in this vast landscape. Mcloughlin uses drypoint carborundum, mixed media and etching to convey the rich colour and texture of the changing landscape.
Bairbre Murray: Bairbre Murray is an emerging artist who works mostly in oils. She likes to paint on paper textured with gesso. She also enjoys working in chalk pastel and is currently experimenting combining this with other media. Her images here explore the distance both emotional and physical experienced in our encounters as islanders with the coastal landscape/seascape. This compliments and extends her ongoing exploration of ideas around family history, memory and hereditary, based around photographs and stories, for which she received an Arts Council Agility Award. She is currently working toward a solo exhibition around these themes. Bairbre is a member of Artnet DLR and exhibits regularly as part of their group exhibitions. Recently she took part in their Crosscurrents exhibition in the Lexicon Gallery
