Waiting for Elvis

Rathfarnham Theatre Group is delighted to present this heartwarming play by Eileen Gibbons in our Maureen O’Hara Studio.

Waiting for Elvis is a poignant, sharp comedy about the fragility of friendship and acceptance of human eccentricities.

Lisa Marie spends her time alone, sitting on a park bench, waiting for her hero – Elvis.  Her routine is disrupted one day with the arrival of Elizabeth who asks if she can sit down beside her.  Begrudgingly Lisa Marie agrees but only on the understanding that Elizabeth will get up when Elvis arrives.  Over time a delicate bond is formed and, against all the odds, these two marginalised women ultimately find friendship on a park bench.

“ . . . an elegant depiction of unwavering companionship against a harsher world  . . .  such friendships don’t come along very often.” [Axis Ballymun] Peter Crawley, Irish Times, 5 April 2013.
