Dear Friends,

If this extraordinary 18 months has taught us anything, it is this: we need human contact.

‘The show must go on’, the show did, in fact, not ‘go on’. The ‘show’ was cancelled, postponed, rescheduled, reimagined, streamed….. With all the uncertainty of this unprecedented time, we were forced to pause, and in that pause, recognize the fragility of all of the people we hold dear – artists, groups, staff, volunteers, students and extending out from them, you,  our audience.

While it has never been more challenging to make theatre, it has never been easier to make the case for theatre. The same basic human need is being fulfilled: to share the experience of something being created. We have to be there, because we are creating it together: when the magic happens, our hearts and minds combine to create an experience that is a million miles away from that of watching a movie, still less a live stream of a play, however well done everyone, we are finally opening our doors to welcome you back.

Thank you to our Board of Directors who poured reassurance around the organisation, our funders who stepped up creating new life rafts, our staff and volunteers who weathered the storm and our audience, who have rallied round in support of us, by engaging and donating, or by simply sending a note to say hello.

It’s time now to dust off the cobwebs.

Mill Productions are rehearsing Shakespeare’s Othello to open in October. Kilmacud MS, Glencullen MDS, Rathfarhnam Theatre & Balally Players are planning for November. Dundrum 1 Act Festival will welcome amateur theatre groups from across the country and our much beloved pantomime will return at the end of the year. Keep an eye on our website for all upcoming events.

In line with new government guidelines issued on 31 August, we are delighted to be increasing our capacity to 60% for all performances at the DLR Mill Theatre.

We are delighted that Box Office will reopen to the public from Thursday 16th September  and can be contacted by phone (01 296 9340) or e mail .  Box Office hours will remain as Tuesday-Friday 11am-4pm and 1 hour before a show should there be one.

Stay safe. We can’t wait to see you.

Funded by Creative Ireland and the Arts Council we have produced, with the needs of the Junior Cycle student firmly in mind, The Romeo and Juliet Projectwhich explores the play under the themes of Love and Conflict through an examination of key moments from the play. Rehearsal footage, insights into how director and designers make choices in terms of stage craft and excerpts from the play, will broaden the student’s understanding of the text and are very much examination focused. Interspersed with vox pops, character quizzes and trivia, this resource will be a fast paced, snappy and accessible learning tool. Please email for more information and to obtain a code accessing you to this resource from end of September onwards.

Ongoing – Bairbre Murray, our current artist in residence’s online catalogue can be viewed here. This exhibition, In Transit:Transition is about the artist’s immediate urban environment experienced through walks in her locality. Purchases can be made by calling box office on 01 296 9340.
