Eye to Ear – A Visual Homage to Music

This is Jimmy Burns’ 10th solo exhibition and his fourth music-themed exhibition of paintings in which the musical instruments take on another life, often humorous and always engaging.

Jimmy’s work is in the Surrealist tradition, closer in style to Magritte than to Dali. Subject matter and technique are important to him and Surrealism allows him the space to elucidate while simultaneously distorting his subject matter – in this case, the world of Music. The works are painted mostly in oils but where he wants a specific finish, Jimmy uses acrylics. Jimmy Burns studied Art in Croydon and Leeds in the UK, and later at NCAD. He lives and teaches art practice locally. Eye to Ear is Jimmy’s visual homage to Music and promises to be a visual treat for lovers of all music genres. These images will make you think about the profound connection that has always existed between art and music and, indeed, may cause you to reflect on where this association is going in this digital age in a way you may not have thought of previously. Not to be missed!
