Concertina style book or leporello refers to printed material folded into an accordion-pleat style. Also sometimes known as a concertina fold, it is a method of parallel folding with the folds alternating between front and back. This workshop includes making a handmade A6 concertina book with Fabriano paper. Based on the theme of city life and starting with drawings from a wide selection of photos of the city environment as a source of inspiration.
The idea is to create a sense of place through drawings of locations and people in Dundrum documenting it in a simple easy to apply fold out book using a selection of drawing materials and coloured inks. This workshop aims to develop a unique visual language in a fun environment with guided instruction throughout. Recording different scenes on each page with the focus illustration techniques like composition/ mark making/colour. The final stage involves adding areas of colour with each participant having an individual illustrated concertina book to take home.
